[Richtlijnen voor opmerkingen] Opmerking van de fotograaf
The Senegal Coucal, Centropus senegalensis, is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes, which also includes the roadrunners, the anis, and the Hoatzin.

It is a widespread species through Africa, except the northwest and into south Arabia. The Senegal Coucal is a bird of grassy habitats with trees, such as bush and savannah. It nests off the ground in vegetation, and the typical clutch is 2–4 eggs laid in a large nest built from stalks and leaves.

This is a medium-sized species at 39 cm (15 in). Its upperparts, bill, legs and long tail are black, the wings are chestnut, and the underparts are white.

Sexes are similar, but juveniles are duller and barred above.

The Senegal Coucal takes a wide range of insects, caterpillars and small vertebrates. It occasionally eats other food items.

This is an abundant species, which advertises its presence with a loud ook-ook-ook call.

Hallo Peter,
"Pragtig" is nie die woord nie. Werklik uitstaande. Welgedaan. Beste wense.

Another great picture from your Senegal trip, Peter.
Not an easy perspective, but you have done a great job of it. The eye of the big bird is in sharp focus and its somewhat belligerant mood has been well captured.

Hello Peter,
Excellent management of the difficult light, allowing good details and a very elocuent contact with the bird's eye. Also the POV is very suitable.

Dear Peter, I need ask you some thing (as you know I'm just entering the world of DSLR and need to learn!) ... I see you do your bird's pictures with a focal lenght of 300mm and VR does not appear in the description of your Nikkor lens... Your doing these photos at 300mm without image stabilization? Do you use tripod then...? I see that your photos have very good clarity MF!, but few days ago I tried to use my little tele at 200mm (andfrom 1/100s to 1/200s) without VR and the birds seemed very very "whipped" in all cases.
Regards
TFS

Hello Peter,
You seem to have still a lot of bird pictures taken during your travels sleeping in your archives. Interesting Cuckoo-bird with a very special and beautiful plumage. Fine presentation, not an easy task to take pictures with this kind of white sky.
Thanks and kind regards
Anne
