|On my bicycle trip through Tunisia: |
This Blister beetle, Croscherichia (=Mylabris) paykulli (Billberg, 1813) of the Meloidae family looked familiar to me, having found similar species in Valais, Switzerland. The beetle genus lays eggs in the ground and the hatching larvae crawl around to look for grasshopper eggs to eat. The presented African representative may or may not have been shown on TN before.
ID: on http://www.galerie-insecte.org/galerie/pays2-996-Meloidae.html I found a key for North African Meloid species. Luckily many species can be told apart by the red and black pattern of their elytrae.
