[Richtlijnen voor opmerkingen] Opmerking van de fotograaf
The title is inspired from the title of one of the books by the Noble Prize winner in Literature Gabriel Garcia Marquez - 'The Fragrance of Guava'.

Seen here is a blue banded bee getting attracted to a guava flower. Shot taken hand-held standing in a precarious place and the conditions was cloudy as well as windy.

The Anthophorini is a large tribe in the family Apidae, with over 750 species worldwide that were previously classified in the family Anthophoridae; the vast majority of species are in the genera Amegilla and Anthophora. All species are solitary, though many nest in large aggregations. Nearly all species make nests in the soil, either in banks or in flat ground; the larvae develop in cells with waterproof linings and do not spin cocoons. Species in this tribe are often referred to as "digger bees", though this common name is sometimes applied to members of the tribe Centridini, as well.

The characters used to define this group are subtle, but they are nonetheless fairly recognizable; they are generally large (up to 3 cm), very robust, hairy bees, with visibly protruding faces, and the apical portion of the wings are studded with microscopic papillae. The abdomen is often banded, and in many Old World species of Amegilla these bands are metallic blue. The wings often appear disproportionately short compared to other bees, and their "buzz" is often a high-pitched whine, as they hover and feed on flowers. Males commonly have pale white or yellow facial markings, and/or peculiarly modified leg armature and hairs.

salut Sumon,

A really fantastic capture...Absolutely beautiful...Splendid colors and detail...Great DOF...TFS
Jim

Sumon, one of the first things I noticed in this picture is the DOF. It is perfect. Gives a three dimensional feel to the picture. The colours, aperture, exposure etc are all in place. A higher SS could have helped a little more, but that is a minor detail.

Very good composition overall.

Good work, Warm regards, Kiran.

Hi Sumon,
Kiran is right about the DOF, its amazing. The colors are wonderful too. I like the action in this shot

bonjour sumon
il va falloir nous presenter cet UFO posé pour que nous puissions bien voir ses couleur un peu bizard, toujours est il que vous avez reussi a l'avoir net et c'est super.

I have some very hazy pictures of this blue bee shot in Dharamsala (HP) last year, Sumon. They were taken from a distance because the fellow would not let me get closer and I did not have a DSLR with macro lens then.
This is an amzing shot. At 500, you have frozen the bee in mid air along with a fine view of the guava flower it is going to land on.
If I am not mistaken, this could be the first picture of a blue bee on TN.
Kudos for doing a great job and best regards.

This is superb, Sumon!
Great capture of this blue Anthophorid Bee homing in on a Guava Flower. Very fine sharpness and excellent composition with just the right DOF and BG despite the low aperture.
Brilliant!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Amazing photo! I am fascinated by the blue color on the bee. I have never seen anything like it. The sharpness of the entire photo is impressive. Not only is the bee razor sharp, but the flower is well focused also. Exposure is outstanding with very vivid color, excellent light, and no over-exposure of the white flower! You should be very proud of this one. This is nature at it's best!
