Asteriscus hierochunticus is a tiny desert annual plant. It germinates only in rainy years, after blooming the plant dries out and die, its daisy-like inflorescence closes and protect the seeds (from predation) until the next rainy season comes (see grey dead plants in the picture). When the rain comes the inflorescence opens, although it is a dead tissue (the plant is annual) and the seeds are dispersed.
The plant is named after the oldest city in the world - Jericho.
