Hello my Friends

These time another butterfly from Argentina. I took the photo in Buenos Aires at the begining of my Antarctic trip. I hope you like it

Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Heliconiinae (Longwings)

Longwings are members of the Family Nymphalidae. They are richest in the tropics, but several genera are prominent in the Northern Hermisphere, including the fritillaries or silverspots and the lesser fritillaries. The adults of several species are distasteful, and many other species mimic the distasteful butterflies of this subfamily. Adults are long-lived, with some as long as six months. Males patrol in search of females.

Agraulis vanillae maculosa Stichel, 1908 (Gulf Fritillary)

Upperside bright orange with black markings; 3 black-encircled white dots on forewing leading edge. Underside brown; forewing with orange at base; both wings with elongated, iridescent silver spots.

Wing span: 6.3 - 9.5cm

Range
South America north through Central America, Mexico, and the West Indies to the southern United States. Wanders north to the central United States; rare northward. Common throughout Texas.

Caterpillar host plants:
Various species of passion-vine including maypops (Passiflora incarnate) and running pop (P. foetida).

Adult food:
Nectar from lantana, shepherd's needle, cordias, composites, and others.

Hello Krzysztof.
Very beautiful butterfly even though rather worn and pale in colour. Very sharp details and a fine composition. Good note too!
Many thanks, Ulla

Hello Krzysztof,

This time a very well composed shot of a beautiful butterfly! The empty space around the subject is well distributed to settle the butterfly in the picture. A shame the wings are broken but this wasn't unde your control. The colors are well saturated and can be easily distinguished against the background. Exposure is spot on and the DOF is large enough to include the whole butterfly! Very well done! Thanks!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

Though the specimen is a bit worn out, you have captured it very well, Krzysztof.
The focus is extremely sharp with perfect details on the body of this exotic butterfly.
Very well done and TFS.

So your pictures show versatility in your chosen field or say subdivision of your field. Very good. Every expedition needs a good eye for the capture. Fine shot!

Hello Krzysztof,
Fine capture of a ssp of a Gulf Fritillary taken with a good pose close to. Fine sharpness and detail help to show it up against the woodland floor.

The light and the colors on this butterfly are just superb, Krzysztof .
I also like its stand, seemingly with the thorax and head raised up.
Excellent sharp details.

Hello Krzysztof,
a very sharp picture of vanillae with beautifully differentiated colours. The picture appears very natural considering the damaged hindwings and the background. Excat focus, most suitable depth of field and nice composition.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Krzysztof,
Seems to be an old butterfly, the wings are very damaged. Nice view ofg a very common insect here.

Witaj Krzysztofie,
Pozdrawiam serdecznie,
Jurek
