Fascinating image of this lion.
It's so interesting the way it looks, I mean, don't know if was due to the rain, but this one really seems kind of upset.
Does he have an eye's scare?
Anyways I like this capture of the "king" on the wild.

Wonderful shot Annick!

It's not one of those classic lion pictures we see on tv - a lion walking proudly through the savana on a torrid sunny day. It's more of an emotional picture with this old fellow injured and "licking his wounds". Maybe that's why he was so obediant at the female.
Technically, despite the difficult condition - not ideal light and "heavy" surroundings of your subject, you still managed a great shot of this old soldier.

Hi Annick

Even a large place like the Kruger Park can really be part of such a small world. Not only the 4x4's, Jeeps, and your Toyota Corolla managed to negotiate this mud bath, but so too did my Nissan Tiida and we must have passed right by one another without realising it. Same as you, we were also staying in Lower Sabie camp on the night of 6 October. From your Travelogue I further observed that we were also staying in Shingwedzi at the same time as you did (14-15 October) and so too in Letaba (17 October). Such a pity we did not or could not recognise or meet each other and at least just exchanged a hello, nice to meet you, enjoy the rest of your trip, etc... At least it seems like you had a fabulous time and I am happy for your sake that Kruger revealed its beauty to you.

I obviously follow all your Kruger postings and in so doing appreciate all your sightings and experiences as well. You have made good work of this capture as the mud, the rain, the dark conditions, and the long grass was much more of a handicap than one would gather from this posting. We who were there can really value and realise the quality and beauty of this shot.

cant resist the king shots..
my all time favourite in the wild..majestic and aloof and at times...very photogenically friendly
so above anything going on yet a killer ready to be unleashed
i like this old guys indifference
the coat, nose scarring and eye tells me he is still boss in his area
